A break from the digital life — Bent Wood Bicycle Tray Project

By Sunday, November 30, 2014 No tags 1

As a side project, I have been designing and building these bent wood bicycle trays. Needless to say, I’ve spent a lot of time in the wood shop working with a variety of wood working tools. It has been a while since I have used a bandsaw and table router. It feels so satisfying to be making something tangible with my hands. Like most designers, I spend a lot of time in front of my laptop or reading and talking about design.

Seeing a project transition from a rough idea to sketch to design and finally to a physical form all under my guidance is an incredible feeling that I feel that all designers should feel. It was one of the reasons why I have pushed myself to learn a variety of skills outside of design.

Special thanks to Jon Martin, and Leah Martin for their assistance and support through this process.
